5 Possible Reasons Your Penis Hurts During Sex

While it may sound counterintuitive, some people experience pain during sexual intercourse. Moreover, sexual pain is often associated with women, but in reality, men experience it, as well. Among the reasons, men feel penile pain during sex includes;

1. Peyronie’s disease – a penile health condition characterized by the curvature of the penis. It is normal for the penis to have a slight curvature, but when the curvature is beyond normal and cause pain, this hurts during erections and sexual intercourse. The abnormal curvature is due to the plaque build up somewhere in the penis shaft. Consulting a urologist is advised.

2. Phimosis and Paraphimosis – This happens to uncircumcised men where the foreskin of the penis is forced back while it’s not yet ready. This also happens when there is a fibrous scar present preventing the retraction of the foreskin. On the other hand, paraphimosis means the foreskin is retracted behind the penile crown (corona) and does not return to its normal position.

3. Priapism – If there is an inability to achieve and maintain erections known as erectile dysfunction, priapism is a prolonged erection of the penis. However, while it may sound good to have long-lasting erections, this persistent erection can cause pain. One reported case where a man overdosed himself with Viagra and end up having a persistent erection.

4. Skin Disorders – It’s obvious that any form of skin disorders within the penis area resulting in painful sex. Common skin conditions affecting the penis include psoriasis, dermatitis, and balanitis. These skin conditions when they affect the glans or head of the penis can be painful during sexual stimulation.

5. Penile Fracture – There’s nothing more painful than a fractured penis. While there are no bones in the penis shaft, it can break while it’s erect due to aggressive sexual action. One of the common reason for penile fracture is due to the sex position where the woman is on top of the man. When penile fracture happens, it’s important to seek medical help as it can result to permanent erectile problem, which may require a penile transplant.
